Ananda Dhiira is a special project of the Women's Welfare Department of Ananda Marga, an international, progressive social service organization with branches over 160 countries on every continent. It is one of the few global organizations to render voluntary social service and disaster relief, and has since developed a vast network of dedicated volunteers through out the world. Master Unit is a term coined by the founder of Ananda Marga to embody its goals and mission in a nutshell. There are two master units that is currently being managed by the Women's Welfare Department in the United States. One is called Ananda Vrati, located in Ashville, North Carolina. and Ananda Dhiira which is located at the scenic Penn Valley, California. (Click on Peek-A-View)
The property located at Sanctuary Road was not the first endeavor the didis tried to work on. A previous land in Dobbins was consumed by wild fires and was later sold. The didi assigned at that time looked for a long time to find another property that was not touched by toxic chemical fertilizers. After a long search, a close to 20 acre land located next to the South Yuba River State Park that had a creek running through it was found. Didi and the community of Margiis saw tremendous potential although there is ton of work to be done. Volunteers came to help almost every other weekend to clear brush, start a vegtable garden, create paths, restore a barn that was falling apart. Although money from the Dobbins property was used as down payment to procure this property, there was still the monthly mortgage, taxes and insurance and repairs to think about. With the contribution of the members and sympathizers, fund raising activities such as retreats, concerts, seminars and classes, funds were raised to continuously support Ananda Dhiira.
Today, Didi Ananda Lalita is the rector of Ananda Dhiira. Didi Shveta is in charge of managing the property. Didi Ananda Lalita has assisted in other WWD master unit projects in other countries and brings with her a wealth of experience being a teacher of spirituality and neo-humanistic approach. Didi Shveta came fresh out of training and brings with her the strength of youth and dedication to the natural environment. Previously there were other didis that contributed to the beauty and improvement of Ananda Dhiira. Didi Ananda Atandra brought her cooking skills that she matched with lectures and classes on yoga. For her part Didi worked very hard to get partial tax exemption on the property which tremendously helped on the financial side. Didi Cidrupa brought her natural artistic talents by which one can still find her paintings at the entrances. One of her other works can still be found in the meditation hall. And of course, Didi Giiti Mainjusa who was very dedicated and focused and found 19898 Sanctuary Road.
For those who have seen Ananda Dhiira from its beginning, one can find tremendous improvement continue to happen. Through consultation and contribution with the community it will continue to develop gradually. This is due to the special vibration that can be felt in the serene beauty of the oak trees, the slopes that give way to scenic views, the peaceful meditation hall and the quaint house that buzz with dedicated yogic nuns and eager volunteers. There is still much to do in Ananda Dhiira. Your help in every which way possible is always welcome.
